Tax Credits

Learn how the Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit can significantly reduce the cost of investing in energy-efficiency improvements for your project.

Energy Trust provides cash incentives to businesses for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. To qualify, you must:

  • Have a project site in Oregon served by Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, NW Natural or Cascade Natural Gas and contribute to the public purpose charge. Check your bill or contact us if you have questions.
  • Have a project site in Washington served by NW Natural. Washington customers are eligible for gas incentives only.
  • Be improving an existing structure.
  • Be a commercial, industrial or institutional facility.
  • Large electric consumers of more than one average megawatt or 8,760,000 kilowatt hours a year are subject to the Energy Trust Self-Direct Policy. Program services are limited and restrictions apply to self-directing consumers. Please refer to the Self-Direction FAQ or contact us for additional details.

Energy Trust offers cash incentives for both standard and custom projects, as well as solar projects.

Projects that feature non-custom equipment with easy installation can earn standard incentives. Qualifying projects can claim up to $500,000 per site, per year.

Projects that go beyond the standard incentive list may qualify for custom incentives. All custom projects must be pre-approved by Energy Trust. Custom incentives for projects involving non-lighting equipment are approved up to 35 percent of the total approved cost, not to exceed $0.20/annual kilowatt hours saved and $1/therm saved. The maximum incentive per site is $500,000 per year.
