Common-Area Lighting

Savings with a flick of a switch

Energy-efficient lighting in the common areas of your property can illuminate a whole new world of cost savings. Lighting upgrades are the best and often the easiest first step in any energy-efficiency program. Energy Trust offers cash incentives for lighting upgrades in common areas such as parking lots, hallways and laundry rooms.

Using simple project details provided by you and your contractor, we’ll give you an estimate of your dollar and electrical savings, along with the approximate payback period.

Energy Trust Incentives

Energy Trust offers incentives for a variety of lighting fixtures and controls (see below). Custom incentives are also available for lighting projects and are 35 percent of the total approved project cost, not to exceed $0.17/annual kilowatt hour (kWh). All standard and custom lighting projects must be pre-approved by Energy Trust.

Your property must be an Oregon rental property or condominium building with five or more units (properties with fewer than five units, please visit the Small Multifamily pages). The property’s energy must be primarily delivered by Portland General Electric or Pacific Power to qualify for Energy Trust cash incentives. Energy-saving improvements must meet program requirements.

Energy Trust offers a variety of lighting incentives based on the type of fixtures and controls installed—all standard and custom lighting projects must be pre-approved by Energy Trust.

Incentives for standard lighting projects may be available for up to 50 percent of total eligible project cost, not to exceed $0.17/annual kilowatt hour saved.

Incentives may also be available for the installation of custom lighting equipment for up to 35 percent of the total approved installed cost, not to exceed $0.17/annual kilowatt hour, kWh, saved.  All custom equipment must individually pass a cost-effectiveness test.

  • Standard incentive
It’s easy to qualify for a standard lighting incentive. Contact us to talk about your project plan.
  • Custom incentive
All lighting equipment purchases must receive pre-approval from the program to qualify for custom incentives. Contact us to talk about your project plan. A lighting trade ally and program representative will work with you through each step of the process.
