Dishwashers

Why buy an ENERGY STAR® qualified dishwasher?

A new ENERGY STAR qualified dishwasher uses at least 41 percent less energy than the federal minimum standard for energy consumption and replacing a dishwasher manufactured before 1994 with an ENERGY STAR qualified dishwasher can save you more than $30 a year in utility costs.

Tips for choosing an ENERGY STAR qualified dishwasher

  • Choose the right size for your home. Standard capacity models hold more than eight place settings and six serving pieces. Compact capacity models hold eight place settings and six serving pieces or less. If you operate a compact model more frequently, you may actually use more energy than you would with a standard model over time.
  • Select a dishwasher with multiple wash cycles. This allows you to adapt your cleaning cycle to match the soil level on the dishes. For example, if the dishes are only slightly soiled, selecting a light or energy-saving wash cycle that uses less water and operates for a shorter time will save you money.
  • Check the yellow EnergyGuide label. The EnergyGuide label indicates how much energy the dishwasher uses, compares the energy use of similar models and approximates annual operating costs.
