CFLs should be recycled so the mercury, metal and glass can be reclaimed for use in future products. Because of the mercury content, used CFLs are considered household hazardous waste. The best way to recycle them is to save them and take them to a household hazardous waste collection facility or a collection event where they’re accepted along with materials such as paint, pesticides and other household chemicals.

At each The Home Depot store, customers can simply bring in any expired, unbroken
