Home Energy Review Process

What happens during a Home Energy Review?

An Energy Trust energy advisor will conduct a one-hour walkthrough of your home, visually assessing areas where energy is typically lost, including:

  • Insulation levels in the attic/ceiling, walls, floors and ducts
  • Heating system
  • Air sealing and windows
  • Ventilation
  • Moisture problems
  • Old appliances

After the review, you'll receive a prioritized list of recommendations and available cash incentives for qualifying, energy-saving home improvements—detailed information you can use to plan your projects. You'll also receive free energy-saving products that help make your home more energy efficient immediately (eligibility requirements apply):

  • ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (up to 10, a $50 value)
  • High-performance showerheads
  • Water-saving faucet aerators

What's next after your Home Energy Review?

If your energy advisor recommended diagnostic testing through a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR comprehensive home assessment, contact a Home Performance contractor to schedule an appointment. A specially trained and certified contractor uses state-of-the-art equipment to test and evaluate all components of your home's interior and exterior.

Make energy-saving home improvements. Your prioritized list of recommendations will give you the information you need to install energy-efficient upgrades. Contact an Energy Trust contractor, or any other Oregon licensed and bonded contractor, to discuss and schedule installation of eligible improvements.

Get cash back for home improvements you complete. Review the cash incentives available to homeowners and submit a copy of your contractor's invoice with the correct Energy Trust application form once the work is complete. If you plan to install your own floor or attic insulation (duct and wall insulation excluded), or work with an Oregon Construction Contractors Board-licensed contractor who is not an Energy Trust trade ally contractor, call us at 1.866.368.7878 before beginning work to receive pre-approval. You can also receive cash incentives when you purchase select ENERGY STAR qualified products, such as clothes washers and refrigerators.

Go solar. If you're interested in installing solar electric or solar water heating systems, you can attend one of our free Basics of Going Solar workshops to learn the basics of solar energy systems and how they might work for your home.
