Direct-Vent Gas Fireplaces

Direct-vent gas fireplace

High-efficiency direct-vent gas fireplaces provide heat directly to the interior spaces you want. These units—which must be direct-vented with sealed combustion—are safe and easy to operate. Energy Trust maintains a list of qualifying models for gas fireplaces, which includes inserts, zero-clearance gas units and free-standing gas stoves. It is recommended to contact a retailer or trade ally directly to see what type of fireplace is best suited for your home.

Some direct-vent gas fireplaces use a pilot light ignition—or a small flame—to ignite the gas needed to operate the unit. Unless you manually turn the pilot light off, the flame stays lit year round, wasting energy and money. Energy Trust requires a unit with an electronic starter—called an intermittent pilot light ignition—to reduce wasted energy and utility costs.

Energy Trust offers cash incentives for direct-vent gas fireplaces with a pilot light ignition.

Oregon customers primarily heating their homes with electricity or natural gas from Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, NW Natural or Cascade Natural Gas can participate.

NW Natural customers in Washington who heat their homes with natural gas can receive our incentives.

Oregon homes that heat with oil, propane, kerosene, butane or wood can conduct their own energy audit and apply for cash rebates for installed weatherization upgrades through the Oregon Department of Energy's SHOW (State Home Oil Weatherization) program.

Energy Trust does not pay incentives for energy-efficient improvements that are mandated for building code compliance, such as remodeling, renovation or new additions to the home.
