Eligible Turbines

To be eligible for an Energy Trust incentive, turbines must be on our list of eligible turbines. To qualify for the list, a turbine must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of testing as meeting the requirements the American Wind Energy Association Small Wind Turbine Performance Standards (AWEA 9.1 – 2009) or the applicable small wind sections of IEC 61400. Following testing, the results must be certified by an independent certification organization such as the Small Wind Certification Council, or
  • As the above standards are relatively new, a second option will exist through December 31, 2011. This option requires that a manufacturer provide technical information and specifications of the wind turbine for Energy Trust review and provide acceptable evidence demonstrating one year of reliable operation (12 months of wind speed data measured at one rotor diameter below the hub coupled with monthly energy production information) of that model of equipment at a site in the United States with annual average wind speeds of at least 12 mph.
