Your old fridge or freezer can be costing you more than you realize (see how much). That’s why Energy Trust offers FREE refrigerator and freezer recycling to help you save money and energy. It’s quick and convenient—and you’ll get $40 for participating.

Refrigerators built before 1993 can use two to three times more energy than new high-efficiency models. If you recycle and replace your pre-1993 fridge and replace it with a new ENERGY STAR® qualified model, you can save more than $100 a year on energy costs. Discontinue using a second fridge in your garage or basement and you can save up to $200 a year. When you recycle your old refrigerator or freezer, 95 percent of its components are reused, and the toxins and ozone-destroying gases from its foam insulation are disposed of safely.

You must be an Oregon customer of Pacific Power or Portland General Electric. Your refrigerator or freezer must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet and working. Service is provided by JACO Environmental.

If you have a non-working unit, please contact your current waste and recycling hauler to arrange a pick-up for a fee. Visit the State of Oregon Solid Waste Recycling site for a list of appliance recycling contacts by county.

Follow these easy steps to redeem your cash incentive for recycling your old refrigerator or freezer:

1: Establish your eligibility.

2: Schedule your appliance pick-up online or call us at 1.866.444.8907.

3: If the property is a multi-family or business building please fill out the Multi-Family Recycling form and submit with a copy of a W-9.
