A Case Study in Modeling District Utility Plants and Heat Recovery Chillers

Join us for a BESF presentation on August 24 to learn how Oregon State University (OSU) addressed aging building systems, improved operations, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions at their chilled water plant located on the Corvallis campus.  Hear how Systems West Engineers worked with OSU to design and construct a new, high-efficiency District Utility Plant while renovating the historic Cordley Hall research building.

The presentation will provide insights into the approach and methodology used in this multi-phase project and highlight the unique challenges in modeling a centralized chilled water plant and a heat recovery chiller operation. This case study example will demonstrate the modeling tools and techniques – as well as Energy Trust incentives – used to support the project’s energy efficiency goals.

About the presenter:

Joe Iaccarino, PE, CEM, LEED AP BD+C, director at Systems West Engineers

Joe Iaccarino is the director of Energy Services at Systems West Engineers and is a licensed mechanical engineer, energy expert and sustainable design advocate. With a background in EM&V and simulation-aided design, Joe has over a decade of hands-on experience in energy efficiency consulting, analysis and modeling of energy-saving measures for residential, multifamily, commercial and industrial buildings.
