With the use of non-organic products such as paper towels and disposable wipes on the rise, wastewater pumping systems are often working harder to minimize clogging. This wears down pumps faster and increases energy use.

Municipal and industrial wastewater facilities across Oregon can achieve significant energy savings by installing energy efficient systems such as self-cleaning wastewater pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and advanced controls at their facilities.

    Energy Trust provides cash incentives to Oregon businesses for energy-efficiency and renewable energy projects. To qualify, you must:

    • Be served by Portland General Electric or Pacific Power and contribute to the public purpose charge. Check your utility bill or contact us if you have questions.
    • Have a project site in Oregon.

  2. Select equipment that qualifies for Energy Trust incentives.

    Your trade ally or vendor can help you get started. Be sure to check all of the “Qualifying Criteria” on the incentive application to ensure that your equipment qualifies for Energy Trust incentives.

  3. Purchase and install the equipment.

  4. Complete the appropriate incentive application for your cash incentive.

    You must return a completed and signed incentive application with your invoices for your equipment to Energy Trust within 180 days of purchase and before the end of the calendar year to receive your incentive.

  5. Receive your incentive.

See incentive amounts available to municipal and industrial facilities for pump system upgrades outlined in the table below. Cash incentives are calculated based on operating hours and usage. Incentives are subject to funding availability and may change.

System Incentive
Industrial Pump VFD, New $200-$1,100 per installed VFD hp, up to 20hp

Self-cleaning wastewater pump (new or retrofit), variable frequency drives (VFDs) and advanced controls using 22.6-100hp can receive $0.45 per kWh saved, up to 90% of eligible project cost. Cash incentives are calculated based on operating hours and usage. Must receive pre-approval before starting project.
