Want to make your home more comfortable and use less energy? Upgrade to a high-efficiency gas furnace and look for the blue ENERGY STAR® label. Your new furnace will deliver energy savings, reduced energy costs and a cozier home, especially when you follow these helpful tips:



  • Ask your contractor to help you determine what size gas furnace you need
  • Have your ducts tested and sealed to increase efficiency, prevent heat loss and get extra cash back
  • Look for ENERGY STAR models, which meet strict energy-efficiency guidelines and provide energy savings and comfort

Energy Trust Incentives

Oregon Customers

A bonus cash incentive is available when a qualifying gas furnace is combined with the purchase of a qualifying gas water heater. Read more about the Gas Furnace and Water Heater Package. Offer begins January 1, 2010, and expires April 30, 2010.

Washington Customers of NW Natural

Gas furnace—$100
Minimum 90 percent or greater AFUE; incentive available for primary heat source only. Incentive available through October 1, 2010.

Note: Energy Trust no longer pays incentives for gas furnaces that are used as backup for high-efficiency heat pumps, also known as hybrid systems. We do pay incentives for qualified heat pumps. Washington customers of NW Natural are not eligible to receive the Gas Furnace and Water Heater Package incentive.

Tax Credits

Oregon Residential Energy Tax Credit: Up to $350
Furnace must meet Oregon tax credit criteria. See Oregon Department of Energy or your tax accountant for complete details.

Federal energy tax credit: 30 percent of cost, up to $1,500. See rules and requirements.

Manufacturer rebates
Ask your contractor about rebates that can save you even more money.

Oregon customers heating their homes with natural gas from NW Natural or Cascade Natural Gas are eligible to apply for the Gas Furnace and Water Heater Package through April 30, 2010.

Washington customers heating their homes with natural gas from NW Natural can receive the $100 gas furnace incentive until October 1, 2010.

Oregon homes that heat with oil, propane, kerosene, butane or wood can conduct their own energy audit and apply for cash rebates for installed weatherization upgrades through the Oregon Department of Energy's SHOW (State Home Oil Weatherization) program.

Energy Trust does not pay incentives for energy-efficient improvements that are mandated for building code compliance, such as remodeling, renovation or new additions to the home.

Washington Customers of NW Natural

Follow these easy steps to get cash for installing a high-efficiency gas furnace in your home:

1: Establish your eligibility.

2: Select a contractor and have the work done.
To receive an Energy Trust cash incentive, contact a qualified, energy-efficiency trained Energy Trust trade ally contractor or any other licensed contractor with a current Washington contractor's license.

3: Submit your application materials within 90 days of installation. Often, your contractor will help you complete the application form.
