Coos Bay – Energy-Efficient Schools Panel and Discussion

School districts can reduce energy costs and direct more money into the classroom by incorporating energy-efficient equipment and systems into and major renovations—these upgrades may also contribute to improved learning environments. Energy Trust of Oregon is hosting a special training event in Coos Bay to discuss strategies for sustainable school design. A panel of architecture, engineering, and facilities management experts will share case study examples of regional projects focused on K-12 schools to demonstrate real-world, cost-effective ways to design more energy-efficient, sustainable institutions.  An interactive discussion will follow the panel’s presentations for you to get advice on your upcoming projects.

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss effective, low-cost strategies for developing sustainable schools, with a focus on designing for Oregon’s coastal climate.
  2. Understand how an efficient school design can contribute to the school’s learning environment.
  3. Learn systems to manage costs from design to construction, including expenses for energy modeling and mechanical equipment.
  4. Recognize the value of early engagement between the building owner, architect and engineer for delivering a net-zero project.
