Creekside Community High School new classroom building: designing and teaching for a more sustainable future

Join us on October 9 for a free webinar and virtual tour of Creekside Community High School’s new classroom facility––the first net-zero building in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. Panelists will discuss the building’s design, the goal of constructing for net zero and the importance of teaching sustainability to the next generation.

The new building is a 15,600-square-foot addition that houses an administration suite and a variety of classrooms, including a computer lab, science classroom and state-of-the-art makerspace. With plywood paneling and open ceilings throughout, it showcases the beauty of simple materials that help establish its non-traditional aesthetic.

The project achieved an EUI target significantly lower than a typical high school building of its size. It has a high-performance envelope, daylighting and natural ventilation, efficient mechanical systems and solar panels.

After its bond passed, the Tigard-Tualatin School District enrolled in Energy Trust of Oregon’s Path to Net Zero offering. The project received over $59,500 in incentives and has estimated annual energy savings of 69,920 kWh.
