Argyle Gardens: Exploring the future of modular cohousing for low-income and formerly unhoused individuals

Join us on August 24 to learn about Argyle Gardens, an innovative housing development in North Portland that used energy-efficient modular building design to create affordable housing for formerly unhoused individuals. During this free webinar and video tour, we will take a closer look at the new development, which consists of 71 affordable studio and single-resident occupancy apartment units.

Argyle Gardens is one of the region’s first multifamily housing developments built mostly off-site. It combines the financial advantages of modular construction with shared living arrangements to decrease operating costs and keep rents affordable—as low as $295 a month. A panel of experts will explore the budgetary benefits of cohousing and modular construction, as well as the ways these approaches can help build community and provide a support network for residents of Argyle Gardens.

The project enrolled in Energy Trust’s New Buildings program, and by incorporating energy-efficient bathroom fixtures (such as showerheads, bath aerators and fans), interior lighting and condensing tankless water heaters, it received over $6,270 in incentives. The project has an estimated annual energy savings of 29,040 kWh and 2,450 therms, and estimated annual utility bill savings of $4,200.
