Challenges and Opportunities in Energy Modeling for School Buildings

Join us for a Building Energy Simulation Forum (BESF) presentation on December 14 to dive into a recent history of energy modeling for school buildings in Oregon and Southwest Washington through the lens of engineering consultants and energy modelers.
Schools and districts have historically faced unique challenges regarding energy use. Those challenges have been made even more difficult in the last three years as a result of the pandemic. R&W Engineering will discuss how they have provided energy services to schools, districts, state agencies and local incentive agencies during these past few years as well as share insights into the opportunities in energy efficiency and resources available to schools.
About the presenters:
Mark Jones, PE, LEED AP – R&W Engineering
Mark Jones is a Mechanical Engineer, Project Manager and Associate of R&W Engineering. He has 26 years’ experience in the engineering field and developed R&W’s energy efficiency and commissioning services. He is experienced at HVAC, piping and plumbing design, energy audits, life-cycle cost analysis, and LEED energy modeling and commissioning. He has worked on numerous projects with utility and state agencies including Energy Trust of Oregon, Clark Public Utilities, Bonneville Power Administration, and Oregon Department of Energy.
Patrick Steelman, EIT – R&W Engineering
Patrick Steelman is an Energy Analyst and Mechanical Designer of R&W Engineering. He began his position providing mechanical engineering services for energy projects at R&W and is now the energy team lead. He trained the R&W analyst team and manages site studies, project analysis and technical reports for each energy project. Patrick has a degree in Energy Systems Engineering from Oregon State University.
