BESF: Understanding “The Amazing Shrinking Room”: Laboratory Testing of Heat Pump Water Heaters in Small Spaces

On February 27, join us for a live webinar training as experts discuss recent laboratory research into heat pump water heater (HPWH) efficiency in enclosed rooms. The laboratory research was conducted by Larson Energy Research and Cascade Engineering Services with funding from Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Their research results provide actionable guidance for manufacturers, designers, engineers, installers and owners for both new construction and retrofit installations.
Increase your knowledge of topics including:
- How the size of the room a HPWH is installed in affects its efficiency
- How to improve efficiency in a small space through increased ventilation
- How the temperature of exchange air affects ventilation
- Comparative advantages of passive convection and forced-air approaches
The webinar will also discuss the thermodynamic principles behind the lab tests, plus provide participants with practical guidelines, design tools and a framework for predicting how different design choices are likely to affect HPWH performance in an installation space.
