Cooling Solutions
A reliable cooling system makes all the difference when temperatures heat up.
Increased incentives for high-efficiency systems and help finding a trusted local contractor.
Search incentives for youWelcome summer comfort
Save on a cooling solution that improves comfort and helps lower energy costs during the hottest months of the year.

Ductless heat pumps (or mini splits) can deliver cool or warm air to a single room or zone in a home without the need for connective ductwork. That means no wasted energy and no comfort lost through leaky ducts. If your home is heated by electric baseboard or cadet heaters, a ductless heat pump can save a considerable amount of energy in the winter while helping you stay cool in the summer. It can also be installed to provide a zonal cooling solution in gas heated homes. They’re quiet, compact, efficient, and ideal for smaller spaces and open floor plans.

Ducted heat pumps are a highly efficient option for homes with existing ductwork and are designed to both heat and cool your home. If your home is heated by an electric furnace, a heat pump can save a considerable amount of energy in the winter while helping you stay cool in the summer. Learn more about ducted and ductless heat pump solutions.

Similar to standard ducted heat pumps, high efficiency, extended capacity heat pumps also provide cooling, while achieving a higher level of heating output at lower temperatures. This makes them ideal for colder climates.

Installation specifications: Extended capacity heat pump must be a central ducted system listed on Energy Trust’s qualified products list and replace an electric forced-air furnace as the residence’s primary heating source. If back up heat present, must be electric. Cannot be combined with other heat pump, heat pump control or smart thermostat incentives.
Extended capacity heat pump: An extended capacity heat pump maintains a higher level of compressor heating output at lower temperatures when compared to a single-, two- or variable-speed heat pump. This allows the extended capacity heat pump compressor to effectively operate in freezing temperatures without activating inefficient backup strip heat or electric furnace. Avoiding the use of backup heat during cold months allows an extended capacity heat pump to save a significant amount of energy during the winter.
Central ducted system: A heat pump configuration that has one outdoor compressor unit and one indoor air handler and serves as the primary heating and cooling source for the home.
Contractor support: A contractor can help find a qualifying extended capacity heat pump and recommend an appropriately sized unit and efficient thermostat settings your home.

Installation specifications: Thermostat must be added to a heat pump and lock electric auxiliary heat out at 35°F or lower. Thermostat must have an outdoor temperature sensor or be web-enabled and retrieve weather data from the internet and listed on our qualifying product list. Cannot be combined with other heat pump, heat pump control or smart thermostat incentives
Electric auxiliary heat: The less energy efficient back up heating system that engages when it is too cold outside for your home’s heat pump.
Lockout temperature: The programmed temperature it has to be outside for the system to switch to electric auxiliary heat. The lower the lockout temperature, the more energy efficient the heat pump system as the electric auxiliary heat is operating less.
Contractor support: A contractor will help determine which thermostat and lockout temperature is right for your home’s heat pump system.
