Water Heater
An efficient water heater will help you save on your home’s second-largest energy expense.
Water heating accounts for 20% of the average home’s energy use. Efficient solutions help you spend less on hot water for the bath, kitchen and laundry room.

An energy efficient water heater can save hundreds of dollars per year in energy costs.
High-efficiency gas tank water heaters meet stricter requirements than standard models and include increased insulation, better heat traps and more efficient burners.
Electric heat pump water heaters are two to three times more energy efficient than conventional electric resistance water heaters. They save energy by moving heat from one place to another instead of generating heat directly.
Energy Trust offers incentives for gas tankless water heaters. As soon as you turn it on, cold water flows into the tankless unit, gets heated to a set temperature, then piped to wherever it’s needed — even simultaneously to the bath, kitchen and laundry room. These models can be more energy efficient than conventional storage tank water heaters.

“Our new water heater uses two-thirds less energy and has a much bigger tank. With a cash incentive from Energy Trust and a dealer rebate, the system cost about the same as a standard water heater.”
— Wayne and Kae Vo, West Linn condo owners
