IMPROVED INSULATION LEADS TO INCREASED COMFORT
The Aalto Modern Apartments, a 1960’s-era apartment complex in Northeast Portland, upgraded the floor insulation in 12 ground floor units increasing tenant comfort and helping residents save on annual energy bills.
After experiencing moisture issues, the Aalto Modern Apartments, a 1960’s-era apartment complex in Northeast Portland, upgraded to new floor insulation in all 12 ground floor units. They received $2,790 in cash incentives from Energy Trust of Oregon making it more affordable to upgrade to high-efficiency insulation.
“The incentives helped me sell the higher rated insulation to the owner. I remember a lower rated insulation being discussed, but as soon as I discovered Energy Trust cash incentives the increase in cost was fully justified,” said Alex Carroll, renovations and capital project manager at the Aalto Modern Apartments.
High-efficiency insulation seals air leaks to keep indoor heat from escaping and helps improve moisture control during wetter months. Not only will the newly installed insulation increase tenant comfort and satisfaction in the winter, but it will also save residents an estimated 3,600 kWh annually—equivalent to $433 in annual energy costs.
