Success Story
Annapurna Ecovillage, Portland, OR
Estimated Annual Savings: $25,600
Sustainable living lies at the core of Annapurna Ecovillage. That is why co-founder Ole Ersson transformed the aging property into an energy-efficient community living complex, complete with updated appliances, equipment and fixtures.
Converting a 1970s-era complex into an eco-friendly urban living community was no easy task, but Ersson and property manager Caleb Rice knew just where to start. “Part of our emphasis, obviously, is sustainability. And part of that sustainability is increased energy efficiency,” said Rice.
Ersson and Rice contacted Energy Trust to identify opportunities for reduced energy consumption. An Energy Trust representative visited the property for a walkthrough survey and determined that the best next step was to replace the existing weather-worn and poor-performing aluminum single-pane windows. The new, more energy-efficient window replacements qualified for $70,300 in cash incentives from Energy Trust.
Now, residents enjoy the benefits of energy-efficient windows while saving enough energy to power 14 homes every year. Ersson has plans for future energy-saving upgrades as the community continues to grow, and he hopes to continue partnering with Energy Trust to help make them happen. “We still have a long way to go with Energy Trust,” Ersson said.
