Success Story

The Magnolia, Portland

Energy Trust cash incentives: $11,400

When Innovative Housing, Inc., purchased property in Northeast Portland’s Eliot Neighborhood, they prioritized energy efficiency in the design of The Magnolia, their new 50-unit affordable housing complex.

As a provider of affordable housing for families and individuals in need, Innovative Housing tries to keep operating costs and resident utility bills as low as possible. So, from the onset, Energy Trust of Oregon design ally Carleton Hart Architecture consulted with Energy Trust representatives to establish energy-efficiency goals, enabling the architecture firm to execute a design that will maximize energy savings year after year.

The Magnolia installed energy-efficient lighting and appliances in each residential unit, as well as in common areas, and thanks to its commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable design it is on track to receive a LEED® Silver certification.
