Logos Public Charter School recently moved into a customized facility to better meet the needs of their students and staff. The new campus now has energy-efficient features that will help lower costs while expanding learning opportunities.

Working with Energy Trust of Oregon, Logos received $35,440 in cash incentives to help design their ideal school. With energy-efficient upgrades such as LED lighting, a ductless mini-split cooling unit and a variable refrigerant flow (VRF), Logos will save approximately $17,580 annually on energy costs. “Our new building is three times the size of our old building, but because the new school is so energy efficient, the energy costs really didn’t change that much,” said Sheryl Zimmerer, executive director.

The community has reacted positively to the project. “We had at least 300 community members at our school for the ribbon cutting, and they did a standing ovation. It was just incredible,” said Zimmerer. Most importantly, the students have also benefited, as 7 students received 8 associate degrees—while still in high school.

“To think of where we came from to where we are now, is just mind-blowing,” said Zimmerer.
